BJHI Presents 'Sephardic Brooklyn - From Bensonhurst to Flatbush'



The following statement was submitted by the Brooklyn Jewish Historical Initiative (BJHI). 

This unique three-hour walking tour will give you an overview of the Brooklyn Sephardic community.

Learn about the people and places of Brooklyn’s Syrian Jewish community, beginning with the landmarked Magen David Congregation and the surrounding neighborhood. Tour guides Sarina and David Roffe will discuss the community's history and organization.

Later, participants will board the Kings Highway bus to the main food and shopping area in Flatbush to find and peruse stores, bakeries, Kosher restaurants and interact with Arab and Hebrew speakers. 

The tour will also provide an opportunity to explore magnificent homes, Sephardic synagogues, including the magnificent Congregation Shaare Zion, schools and community centers.
