As the race for City Council Speaker enters its final stages, Council
Member Corey Johnson seems to have gathered enough support to become
the body’s next leader.
“It’s looking inevitable,” one member, who would only speak on background, told POLITICO.
Several sources said Johnson is close to finalizing a deal to secure
the speakership with negotiations with the county organizations
ratcheting up talks in the last two days. One source said county leaders
had begun calling members to inform them Wednesday.
Neither Johnson nor his spokespeople returned a request for comment.
