'Friends of Maple Grove' to Celebrate 10th Anniversary

The following statement was submitted by Carl Ballenas, President of the Friends of Maple Grove

Our organization is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and we are delighted by the sky rocketing memberships coming in!  It is a clear indication that we are certainly doing something right!

During those ten years, we somehow made a connection, either about a family member cared for here or any other reason for which there are many and wanted to share this email with you.

I am honored to have a very dedicated and passionate Board of Directors!  They are all volunteers, who put all their efforts to making our organization unique and fast becoming a cultural center and icon for our community, borough and city!  Our programs, workshops, concerts, walking tours etc. have brought joy and wonder to so many!

To honor our 10th Anniversary, I was able to find a young film director who was set with the impossible task of creating a 25 minute film documentary to tell the story about Maple Grove Cemetery and the about the purpose of the Friends of Maple Grove. That young film director, is Utsab Giri!  From over 40 hours of taping, he crafted a film that shows the true passion, heart and soul that is Maple Grove.  It is indeed a labor of love!

It was selected as one of the 140 films shown at the first ever Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema.  Indeed it was the first film shown during the ten day festival.  Now that its premier is officially over, we have had the film posted on Youtube. I hope you will take a moment to view it and see for yourself why we are so proud of this extraordinary film.

Thank you for your continued support and the dedication you have shown over these past ten years!
