National Action Network to Hold Prayer Vigil for 5 Year-Old Jaheen Hunter

New York, NY – After launching a month-long gun violence awareness initiative on June 1, the National Action Network (NAN), community leaders, elected officials, and anti-gun violence and youth groups will join together in a vigil for Jaheen Hunter , 5-year-old from the Bronx.

While walking to the car with his father on his birthday yesterday, Hunter was shot in the head and then taken to NY Presbyterian Columbia Hospital, where he remains in grave condition.

Vigil participants will also push to make securing peace on New York’s streets a priority for the city. All attendees are asked to wear orange for peace.

Minister Kirsten John Foy, the Northeast Regional Director for National Action Network (NAN) said, “The response of the community to these heinous acts of violence that are destroying our families must be met with greater determination, persistence, commitment, and resolve. The disease of violence cannot overtake the cure of love.”

The vigil will be held at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. The site is located at 3959 Broadway in New York City (165th Street and Broadway).
