Assaults on police officers have sharply increased as cops devote more focus to violent offenders — though overall across the city crime continues to drop.

Rather than continue to exercise the stop-and-frisk tactic — deemed unconstitutional for its abuse and wild inefficiency — police have instead chosen to focus more time and resources to targeting violent criminals.

Possibly feeling that squeeze, goons have increasingly been lashing out at police, officials said on Monday.

"As we ... focus on drivers of violence and other crimes in New York City, as the gun arrests go up, we're seeing our assaults on police officers … up significantly," said NYPD Deputy of Operations Dermot Shea.
